Moorhouses of Burnley, Lancashire, is one Britains fastest-growing craft breweries and has long-since left the ranks of the micros, with production running at more than 16,000 barrels a year. It has many prizes for its
leading beers, including Black Cat and Pendle Witches Brew: the latter recalls the local witches in the area who were persecuted at a time of religious intolerance in the 17th century.
Blond Witch continues the witch theme with a glamorised and modern interpretation of a witch on the label. Curiously, considering the American obsession with political correctness, the beer will called Blond Bitch in the U.S.
Moorhouse's Blond Witch (England)
(RP) The draught version of the beer has been a great success and Moorhouses has now launched a bottled version. Its 4.5% alcohol and is brewed with pale malt and a single hop variety, Fuggles. It has a superb and tempting gold colour with a big aroma of toasted malt which suggests lager malt may be used floral and spicy hops and tart citrus fruit. Juicy malt, spicy hops and citrus fill the mouth followed by a bittersweet finish with rich malt, tangy hops and tart fruit; it finally becomes dry and hoppy. The beer costs between 1.70 and 2.50 for a 500ml bottles. The beer will be available in Booths supermarkets later in the year and both Asda and Tesco may also stock it: check the website www.moorhouses.co.uk .
