This porter-style beer has a striking label showing a medieval knight entering battle on horseback. It is named after Black Tom, a knight who fought in the Battle of Winceby near the famous Bolingbroke Castle in 1643.
Bateman's Dark Lord (England) 
(RP) The beer has a rich, barley-white head that tops a dark ruby-brown body. It is brewed with Maris Otter pale malt (85%), 10.5% crystal malt � this is an extremely high proportion of crystal � 3% wheat and 1.5% roasted barley. The hops are Goldings with 40% of the hop grist made up of Challenger, which are used as a late hop in the copper boil for additional aroma and flavour. The colour rating is 106, bitterness units 48.
Dark Lord has a superb aroma of creamy malt, dark burnt fruit, espresso coffee and hop resins. Spicy and peppery hops burst across the tongue, balanced by roasted grain, tart fruit and powerful notes of coffee and dark chocolate. The long finish has a big punch of bitter and resinous hops, but the bitterness is balanced by roasted grain and tangy fruit. Full-bodied, complex and quenching.
