Sierra Nevada, Torpedo Extra IPA (USA) Just before Christmas Waitrose
secured an allocation of this terrific, hugely hopped IPA which is still in stock online and in many stores at time of writing. It pours a rich barely sugar colour with moderate off-white head. The initial aromas
are all citrus and freshly-cut, leafy green herbs with notes of chicory and some richer, honeyed tones in the background. There's a pine-freshness too, but not medicinal, more fruity, crisp and cool. In the mouth
it has a bit of weight and texture and masses more of that bitter leaf quality of chicory and radicchio. A big scything core of lemon and grapefruit keeps it mouth-wateringly sharp, the edge of honeyed malt just
doing enough to soften the finish and leave this very, very moreish. Remarkably easy to drink despite the hefty alcohol and just packed with character. 7.2% ABV, 35cl, 2.19, Waitrose.
