Cooper's beers
by Willard Clarke, 10/06
Following on from my recently published feature on the Cooper's brewery, I thought I'd better update myself with the two beers currently availably on the UK high street. There will
also be independent stockists for these excellent beers.
Cooper's Original Pale Ale (4.5%)
The beer has a hazy gold colour with peppery hops (Pride of Ringwood variety). Orange/peach fruit and biscuity malt dominate the aroma with tangy fruit and spicy hops on the palate. Hop bitterness comes through
powerfully in the finish with a good underpinning of tart fruit and malt.
(Available in Tesco and Harvey Nichols)
Cooper's Sparkling Ale (5.8%)
An orange/gold colour (some crystal malt is used) with a massive peppery hops aroma with complex apple and gooseberry fruit. Peppery hops burst across the tongue, balanced by tart fruit and juicy malt. The long finish
is dry and fruity, with a solid underpinning of spicy and bitter hops.
(Available in Booths, Oddbins, Selfridges and Waitrose)
