Fuller's new Brewer's Reserve by Willard Clarke, 08/10 Fuller's, the West London brewer, has launched a new version of its Brewer's Reserve beer matured in wood at the Great British Beer Festival (3-7 August 2010). The first version, which met with great acclaim, was matured in casks acquired from a Scottish producer of single malt whisky: the distillery, owned by Diageo, was not revealed. On this occasion, the beer was matured in oak casks (barriques) that had previously held Courvoisier Cognac. The beer used is Fuller's Golden Pride that was placed in 5.3hl Courvoisier casks. As the beer matured, the alcoholic strength was measured at between 11.25 and 11.75%. The beer was then blended with Golden Pride and ESB and brought down to 8.2% ABV. Fullers, Brewer's Reserve No. 2 (England) The finished beer �served on draught at the festival but available only in bottle � has a deep bronze colour. The aroma is oaky with tart orange and vinous fruits and a powerful hint of Cognac. Rich fruit fills the mouth with Cognac and oak notes. The finish is sweet to start but becomes dry with a faint note of hop resins, blood oranges, Cognac and a continuing oaky/woody character.
