Beer Lover's Guide to Cricket

by Willard Clarke, 06/07

Adam Chadwick (right), curator of the MCC museum and library at Lord's cricket ground, enjoyed a pint at the Star in St John's Wood Terrace, north London, with Willard Clarke at a special launch of the Beer Lover's Guide to Cricket the other evening. The Star, a rare outlet for Draught Bass and handpulled Worthington Bitter, is the nearest pub to Lord's. There was a good turnout of North London branch CAMRA members at the event, organised by former national chairman and cricket enthusiast John Cryne.

Roger's latest tome celebrates two of his own personal passions, beer (of course) and the noble game of cricket. Just published by CAMRA books at £16.99 (and available from Amazon UK at £11.04), the book's 160 pages are based on Roger's painstaking research, visiting the major grounds of all the First Class counties to prepare in-depth profiles of their history and notable records. But this is Willard Clarke, so for each ground there is also a detailed run-down on the best pubs in the vicinity, and the real ales they sell. A must for fans of the game who also appreciate the virtues of a proper pint, it is highly commended!
