I am a cider drinker

cider    CAMRA is toasting greater availability of real cider across Britain. as part of their Cider Month celebrations in October, they have announced that more than 550 pubs have signed up to a scheme that helps their outlet promote 'Real Cider' through a simple window sticker expressing 'Real Cider is Sold Here'. Andrea Briers, CAMRA's Cider & Perry Campaigning Chair said, "There has been a huge demand for Real Cider at CAMRA's beer festivals in recent years and more pubs are now homing in on this success. Despite 17% of pubs joining the scheme being located in the South West of England, an area traditionally known for producing and selling cider, there are plenty of pubs offering Real Cider from all of the other regions of the UK including 73 in Yorkshire, 43 in Greater London and 52 in the Midlands. Even Scotland and Northern Ireland have mustered seven affiliates of the scheme.

Highgate on a high

Having gone into voluntary liquidation in June, the future of Walsall's historic Highgate Brewery is now looking much brighter. Ian Robinson, spokesperson for the sites landlord Empire Star Ltd, has confirmed that they have agreed terms with a local consortium to take over the Sandymount Road Site, and contracts are currently being drawn up to finalize the deal. Mr Robinson commented, "At this stage the consortium do not want to reveal their identity, however we can reveal that they have already applied for a license to brew on the site, and their aim is to establish a working craft micro-
brewery and museum." Empire Star Ltd are not only the owners of the brewery site, but also of the Highgate and Davenports beer brands, Mr Robinson went on to say "We are hopeful that the new occupants will make a complete success of the business, and we are showing our own commitment to them by giving them the license to brew the Highgate beer brands."
