RECENT RELEASES - March 2012

Black Cab parks up in supermarkets

Fuller's Black Cab stout, the most recent addition to the London brewer's successful seasonal ales calendar, has just arrived on supermarket shelves as the company reveals that it has bottled the beer for customers to try at home. Launched in pubs "to terrific response," during November and December, Black Cab is Fuller's salute to one of the most iconic images of its home town, the London taxi. Bottled Black Cab is 4.5% ABV and is said to feature "luxurious red berry notes, toasty aromas on the nose and culminates in a dry, bitter finish." Fuller's head brewer, John Keeling, said: "Black Cab is the first stout I've brewed at Fuller's for a long time, and I was very pleased with the reaction we got when it went into pubs late last year. By putting it into bottles, we're giving lots more people the chance to try this terrific ale. I'm hoping customers won't spend too long navigating the beer aisle before picking up a bottle." Black Cab will be available in major supermarkets, including Waitrose, from early March 2012.

Thwaites Egg-roller

egg roller Thwaites reckon that both chocoholics and beer lovers will have a "cracking time this Easter," following the launch of Egg-roller, 4.5% ABV chocolate stout. The latest addition to the Lancashire-based brewers' Signature Ale range is brewed by 'Crafty Dan', Thwaites' brand new craft micro-brewery, and uses a blend of chocolate, crystal and Maris Otter pale ale malt with Golden Naked Oats, finished off with goldings and fuggle English hops to give it a slightly floral edge. Lee Williams (left of picture), marketing manager at Thwaites said: "The name has been inspired by the increasingly popular egg-rolling events we see across the country this time of year. As it's a stout, it will be available from St Patrick's Day but with thoroughly chocolaty flavours and roasted tones, I've no doubt it'll be the perfect treat for customers in the lead-up to Easter too." Also pictured is brewer Steve Fielding.

The seasonal beer is available from March through to May and is described as "a light and bright Yorkshire pale ale at 3.5%abv. The beer also boasts a hoppy kick by using a mix of Fuggle, Goldings and Bramling Cross." Jo Theakston (left), Director of Marketing for the Black Sheep Brewery, said: "We hope customers enjoy the diverse and varied options of limited edition seasonal beers being introduced by the Black Sheep Brewery." Liz Pollard (right) Director of Herriot Hospice Homecare said: "We are absolutely delighted that the Black Sheep Brewery has chosen to support the Charity in this way and hope that All Creatures proves to be very popular!"

Six-month Stefanus

stefanus Miller Brands (UK) Ltd has just launched a new six-month-aged 750ml format for its Belgian Craft beer, St. Stefanus. St. Stefanus, is part of the Miller Brands' portfolio following a distribution agreement with the Van Steenberge brewery and the Sint Stefanus monastery. It was launched in the UK in October last year, but has only been available in 330ml bottle until now. St. Stefanus is a 7% ABV unpasteurised high fermentation beer that is stored after brewing for a minimum of three months for the 330ml format and six months for the new 750ml format, before cellar release. The company says "This allows the beer to continue maturing in the bottle until it is opened, adding further depth and complexity to the taste and aroma." Lucy Jordan, Director of Trade Marketing at Miller Brands, says: "Craft beers are increasing in popularity; the specialist beer market is in 21.4% value growth, compared to 3.1% for the total market. St. Stefanus is aimed at consumers who are passionate about craft beer and will seek out new, artisan products for a different taste experience." Available in the on-trade and specialist off-trade.
