RECENT RELEASES - April 2012
Triple C
Lancashire-based brewer Daniel Thwaites has secured a nationwide listing with Morrisons supermarkets for its Triple C bottled blonde ale, which will see the brand listed in over 250 stores.
It will be merchandised in the Premium Bottled Ale category and priced at 1.65 per 330ml bottle. This listing follows the recent success of Thwaites' Tavern Porter which lined up alongside Wainwright
golden ale on the supermarket shelf in October 2011. Triple C is a 4.4% ABV bottled blonde ale described as fresh and fruity with a hint of grapefruit. The C comes from the Cascade hop which is used in all
three of the brewing stages giving it "a distinctively delicate fresh and hoppy flavour." Triple C was one of the most popular ales from the 2011
Signature range, a calendar of exclusively brewed craft beers designed to cover the wide spectrum of brewing styles and strengths.
Flavours of the Souk
Yorkshire's Ilkley Brewery has collaborated with beer writer Pete Brown to produce a new beer called Medina. The beer is - believe it or not - a 6% ABV "Moroccan influenced Belgian style 'saison'
wheat beer." Described as being dark in colour and "a full bodied fusion of new world hops and selected spices," it has an aroma that is "dominated by the Amarillo and summer hops which give an initial citrus
character that gives way to hints of coriander, ginger and orange over layered with light caramel tones." The finish is described as "smooth with lingering chocolate highlights and dry pepperiness," said to come
from the exotic Nigerian Grains of Paradise spice and 'saison' yeast. The beer is available in The Craft Beer Company, 82 Leather Lane, Clerkenwell, London, EC1N 7TR.
Corvus stout
Wadworth has launched a new "black, rich and creamy," premium stout which it hopes is "poised to add a shot of excitement and variety to the market traditionally dominated by stout heavyweights."
Corvus which takes its name from the Latin for Raven, also comes at a competitive price, which the brewery says will "allow publicans the opportunity to offer their customers a high quality stout at a
lower price." Wadworth Brand Manager Christine Evers says "It's a stout with real character and depth, and we believe it offers more in the way of flavour and quality than other well-known stouts that
are widely available."
Bath Ales Rare Hare
Independent brewer Bath Ales has re-introduced its 'occasional' cask ale Rare Hare (5.2% ABV). Described as a "smooth premium beer that is full in flavour and dry and clean on the palate,"
the beer will be available a limited run from this month onward 'whilst stocks last.
The company says Rare Hare is "a chestnut beer that offers cask lovers a dry, bitter taste with a hint of caramel and an aroma that is topped off with toffee notes." Head brewer, Gerry Condell, says:
"We have worked hard to create a supremely smooth, premium beer that our customers seek out. Its been a popular choice in the past and we hope theyll enjoy this special 2012 brew, while its available."
Rare Hare is available on draught and in 500ml bottles from www.bathales.com.
Harmonious beer
The Revolutions Brewing Company has hooked up with Leeds band Ellen and The Escapades to brew a special ale to celebrate the launch of the band's debut album. The beer, called Escapale, is described as a "4.0% pale,
hoppy ale," and will be available at the two main album launch parties at The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds
and The Lexington in London on 16th April 2012 (part of the band's 10-date tour to promote the album).
The album is titled 'All The Crooked Scenes' and is officially available via download from Monday 16th April and on physical formats from the 23rd April.
