RECENT RELEASES - May 2012
Red, White & Brew
Devizes-based brewers Wadworth have launched a 'best of British' beer that they hope is "set to become the pint of 2012," - Red White and Brew. With visitors flooding into the country and all of Britain
ready to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic games, they are confident there is a demand for a pint that flies the flag. "The summer ahead is a great opportunity for pubs, with tourists ready for a
taste of real Britain, and the Brits themselves in celebratory mood," said Sales and Marketing Director Paul Sullivan. "We've brewed a Great British beer to appeal to the patriotic party atmosphere
that we are confident will prevail throughout the season." Red White and Brew was initially created in a small batch by the Wadworth microbrewery in the New Forest, The Red Shoot. It was given a
trial at the Wadworth beer festival and proved to be a roaring success, prompting the brewers to tweak and perfect the beer for a larger audience. Head Brewer Brian Yorston says: "It has a zesty, hoppy nose
and a fresh, cleansing palate developing into a strong bitterness. It is a real thirst quencher, powerfully hopped, and golden in colour with a 4% abv."
Celtic Marches Cider
Celtic Marches, a young, award-winning apple brandy liqueur producer has bolstered its range of products with a new cider to really make the most of the apple crop from their family farm in Herefordshire.
Abrahalls is a 6% abv cider, made from a blend of bitter sweet and sharp cider apples. The fruit is grown in the Celtic Marches Herefordshire Orchards and is allowed to grow and fully ripen bringing out a
full flavour in the cider. It is said to be light in colour and has a crisp refreshing taste. It will be stocked initially in farm shops and independent stores that currently stock the Celtic Marches range,
as well touring with the events team to the many national shows and local farmers markets that they appear at throughout the year. For every bottle that Celtic Marches sell of Abrahalls cider they will
donate 1p to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, based in Ludlow. For more information contact [email protected] or tweet @celticmarches.
Logan's Run
Lancashire-based brewer Thwaites has gone back to its roots with its latest fruity edition to the popular Signature ale range. Logan's Run is a ruby coloured beer infused with woodland berry aroma and flavour.
Made with bramling cross and fuggles hops, the result is said to be "a refreshingly distinctive fruit-themed beer brewed to put a spring in the step of drinkers looking for something a little different."
The 4.3% ABV beer will be available in Thwaites pubs and its independent free trade network. Lee Williams, marketing manager of Thwaites said: "Logan's Run is a refreshingly vibrant beer and another
great addition to our guest Signature range. Once again our brewers have grasped the opportunity to demonstrate their prowess and created a thirst-quenching fruity beer that should have our
drinkers sprinting to the pub for a taste." Thwaites would be interested to hear what drinkers think about Logan's Run. Feedback can be given via twitter @daniel_thwaites
Sovereign Tastes
Marston's Beer Company will bottle three of its twelve new and craft-brewed Single Hop Ales at the beginning of May, including their Jubilee beer, Sovereign, to be sold in Morrisons and Booths stores across the UK.
The unique 2012 programme has seen "a delicious 4% ABV beer brewed each month with a different carefully-selected single hop." The hops are sourced from nine countries - some never seen before in UK brewing -
and brewed in Marston's Wolverhampton brewery. Due to the success of the cask range in Chef & Brewer pubs across the nation, three of the brews will be bottled for Morrisons' customers.
Sovereign is an English hop and has been used in the Single Hop Ale range in honour of the Queen's Jubilee. It is a new dwarf hop growing to just 8" high (instead of 20"). Marston's says it is "Quintessentially British,
almost regal, this beer is understated, herbal and gently floral with aromas of a freshly mown polo pitch." Developed at the end of the last century as a replacement for Fuggles, the most famous
English hop variety, Sovereign delivers a pale Blonde Ale with "an elegant, floral, understated aroma."
