    beer stories: recent releases

RECENT RELEASES - June 2012

Fuller's goes Wild

wild river In what seems like on the face of it a radical move by the traditional London brewery, Fuller's, they have been teasing the nation's beer media and consumers with trailers for a new beer to be launched on the 15th of this month called 'Wild River'. The excitement is because it is being heralded as a "big American hopped beer," and so not at all Fuller's usual stomping ground. Brewed to 4.5% abv, it uses a "unique blend of American hops imported from the West Coast." The result is said to be a beer "bursting with citrus hop flavours that are sure to leave you wanting more." The beer will be available exclusively to Fullers pubs, with some selected free trade pubs stocking the beer later in the season. Fuller's web site will carry a full list of stockists in the coming weeks.

Identity Parade

identity Another pre-release for the Revolutions Brewing Co which has announced the launch of a new beer addition to its 'C-Series' of beers. Called 'Identity' the beer will be a 6.0% Xtra Strong Bitter (XSB) made with all-English ingredients. As with all Revolutions beers, there is a musical reference and in this case it is the X-Ray Spex single 'Identity'. The launch of the beer will take place at The Golden Ball, Pontefract on Wednesday 27th June from 7pm. The launch event coincides with the pub receiving an award from Wakefield CAMRA as its Pub Of The Season.

Whet Your Whistle

Whet Your Whistle Co-inciding nicely with Euro 2012, Lancashire-based brewers Thwaites latest ale is Whet Your Whistle, a 4.6% ABV made with English malt and Bavarian hops and is the latest 'signing' to Thwaites' popular Signature Ale range. Brewed in Crafty Dan, Thwaites' on site craft micro-brewery, the brewers are hoping that the addition of Whet Your Whistle to the Signature range teamsheet calls full-time on thirst for fans looking to enjoy the European Championships. Lee Williams, marketing manager at Thwaites said: "The brewers have played a bit of a blinder with this one, especially using the Germanic hops. As we've seen in some classic encounters over the years with England and the Old Enemy, combining English malt with Bavarian hops will make for a fascinating match in taste terms!"

Connoisseurs Choice

3 bottles Not one, but three recent releases from Sharp's brewery in Cornwall with the launch of the Connoisseurs Choice range of beers. The new premium range of beers is designed to "profile the best ingredients and be the perfect partner to quality food." Head brewer, Stuart Howe, has designed and brewed three very different beers, each one "born out of his passion for beer and love of aroma and flavour, balance and precision." Quadrupel Ale 2011, Single Brew Reserve 2011 and Honey Spice Tripel 2011 are all available on Sharp's webpage, select beer retailers and restaurants now. Quadrupel Ale at 10% ABV is dark ruby in colour with a "full bittersweet fruitiness and warming finish," while Single Brew Reserve 2011 at 4.5% ABV is a showcase for "the noblest of hops, the Czech Saaz," whilst Honey Spice Tripel 2011, at 10% ABV, is "an effervescent and refreshing beer with spice and fruit notes with a long dry finish."
